No. If FEMA counts you as a person resident outside India, your resident savings account should be re-designated as NRO. The 182-day count is income tax's test: it decides what India counts as your income. The account follows your FEMA status.

You invest in the same Indian mutual funds as a resident, through an NRE or NRO account, with one-time NRI KYC and a FATCA/CRS declaration — and which account funds the investment decides how freely the proceeds come back out.

How these guides are made

Each guide is researched against primary sources (RBI and FEMA directions, the Income-tax Act, 2025, SEBI and AMFI circulars, IRDAI rules), fact-checked before it is written, checked for compliance and then published with a "last checked" date. When a rule changes, the guide is updated and the change is logged at its foot. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy a specific scheme, and nothing is written to sell you anything.
